Information about EYV Vocal Placement Interviews (May/June/August)
(For Children's Choir, Chamber Choir, and Ensemble ONLY):

Joining EYV Children's, Chamber, and Ensemble Choir is a two-step process:

1. A vocal placement interview between the singer and the conductor is arranged by contacting manager@eyv.ca.

2. The family/singer fills out the online registration form and submits a non-refundable deposit of $50.00; this will hold the singer's spot in the choir and will also be deducted from the annual tuition.

Vocal Placement Interviews

Vocal placement interviews are by appointment and are with the conductor of the choir.  Vocal placement interviews are typically held each year in June for September admission. Arrangements can be made for singers wishing to interview at other times. Each vocal placement interview is scheduled for 10 minutes. The vocal placement interview is a simple vocal assessment of the singer's readiness for a choral experience and their ability to match pitch. Singers do not need to prepare anything specific for the vocal placement interview. Simple exercises and “sing-a-longs” are used to identify skill level and to determine placement in the choir. **Vocal placement interviews are meant to be welcoming, non-threatening and are a wonderful opportunity for a conductor to start getting to know a singer and his or her voice. Singers are welcome to interview regardless of experience. Please contact the conductor if there are concerns or questions!

Admission

Admission into the EYV Choral program is based on a combination of musicianship, interest, enthusiasm, and commitment. We are looking for choristers who are eager to sing and eager to learn. The following are things we are looking for in prospective singers: Co-operative and enthusiastic attitude
 Clear, pleasant singing voice
 - Discriminating musical ear
 - Ability to follow instruction / suggestions / corrections
Listening skills, including melodic and rhythmic memory
 Self-reliance Social skills
A student not meeting all of these criteria may be invited to “try it out” at the discretion of the conductor.

Placement

Placement in EYV programs is determined by vocal placement interviews. While placement is largely determined according to the age of the chorister, singers will be placed according to skill and experience in consultation with the singer's family.

**Choristers are expected to make EYV a priority. Please review the rehearsal and performance schedule on the "Events" page to ensure that you are able to commit prior to joining.**

We are always thrilled to welcome new singers and look forward to singing with you!
